It had been about a month since Gwen started classes. A lot had happened since she arrived at campus from work to making new friends, and she felt like she needed to do something to celebrate.

She stared at her reflection at the mirror as she brushed her hair. It was too long. Now with getting ready in the morning and rushing half of the time, she had no time to fix her hair. Short hair would be so much better.

There was a knock at the door. She walked over to find her boyfriend Kevin.

"Hey," she hugged him.

"What's up, had a long day at work," he said as she closed the door. "About five people wanted me to fix their cars."

"Sounds tough," she responded. "What would you think if I got a haircut?"

"A haircut?" He asked confused.

"Yeah, like if I cut it really short," she said.

"I wouldn't mind," he said. "Heck I fell for you all those years ago when you had short hair."

"You really fell for me back then?" Gwen asked.

"Yeah, even when I was eleven I knew you were cute, but the energy got in the way. I was too hungry for power to notice anything else," he had grabbed her hand. "So, what's it gonna be?"

She paused and looked straight at him.

"Trip to the salon?" she asked.

The next day the couple walked into the busy hair and nail salon. Everyone stared at Kevin, wondering what a boy like him was doing in a female dominated place.

He rolled his eyes. Little did they know he used to accompany his mom on errands when he was younger, so this didn't phase him as much.

Gwen paid for the haircut and started to head over to the back. He tapped her on the shoulder before she passed him and a hand lightly touched her ponytail.

"I'm gonna miss playing with this," he chuckled, a few fingers twisting the strands of hair. She giggled and playfully shoved him. She took off the rubber band and her hair fell free. A large hand made it's way down the soft long waves of orange hair, feeling it for the last time.

"Don't worry, it'll grow back," she smiled. She made her way towards the sink where they washed hair. He sat and waited, half of the time on his phone, half of the time looking up to see her in the barber's chair, the scissors snipping away at the hair that floated towards the floor.

Half an hour to about an hour later, Kevin looked up to see his girlfriend walking towards him. Her hair was  straight, about shoulder length now. She smiled at her.

"Do you like it?" Gwen asked, as she glanced at the mirror behind the counter.

He walked up to her and put an arm around her.

"Adorable as always," he whispered as he kissed her cheek. His hand softly caressed her hair. "Still smooth too."

She giggled. He opened the door and they made their way out.
